The case was registered Tuesday evening. A notice in the same matter was issued to Jayaprada by the district administration on Sunday.
"Though Jayaprada filed a reply to the notice Monday, we found it unsatisfactory and directed the police to register a case against her for luring women voters," sub divisional magistrate DP Singh said.
In her reply to the notice, Jayaprada denied having distributed bindis and alleged that her political opponents distributed the packets in the Swar locality of Rampur, about 250 km from here.
However, video footage clearly shows Jayaprada distributing bindis with the Samajwadi Party symbol, said Singh.
"For initiating further action against Jayaprada, we will inform the State Election Commission about the incident," he added.
